It Takes a Village

Coaches, ride leaders, skills instructors, race volunteers, sponsors, advisory-board members, student-athletes, mountain biking moms and dads, and more. It’s going to take many of us to make our league a success, it will indeed take a village. It is our vision and goal to create a community that leaves behind much of the bitterness and unpleasantness that permeates so much of today’s news, and will focus on good karma and hope. Our hope for a better tomorrow lies with our children, and this league will focus on providing NJ’s youth with ample of opportunity for personal development – strong body, mind, and character, inclusivity and equality. Fifteen years of NICA history across the country says this is for real. We hope you will join us on this exciting journey.

Here is what you can do now:

Student-athletes – check out our team locator map, and if there’s a team in your area contact them directly, or contact Tom to help you find a team to join and become active in the NJ league. And definitely follow us on Facebook for the latest news.

Future coaches and ride leaders – contact Larry or Tom to form a team or join an existing team, or contact one of the teams being formed directly. At our March 10th coaches’ information session we had more than four dozen future coaches in attendance, and we know of at least 12(?) teams already being formed. To find a team near you, check out our handy-dandy team locator map (click on each flag for team contact info and more).

Race volunteers – we anticipate that we’ll need around 40 race volunteers to staff our events. Over the coming months, we will build a core racing staff team; members of this team will commit to being at all of our four spring (April-May) races, and will attend race staff training at an established NICA league’s venue this fall. Most other positions will be staffed by walk-on/general volunteers – typically parents and friends of the league who are available for some of the races. To get involved as a general volunteer, please stay tuned to this channel – more information will be forthcoming as we get closer to our first racing season.  If you are interested in getting involved as a core volunteer, please contact Tom.

Sponsors – in addition to the many national sponsor, we hope to attract our own league-level sponsors to help make our league a success. Sponsorship money will go towards funding scholarships, loaner bikes, coach and rider training, and so much more. We believe that the values and lifelong health benefits espoused by our league provide a natural fit with a broad range of organizations as potential league sponsors. If you are a decision-maker, or can introduce us to a decision-maker with a potential sponsor organization, please contact Tom.

Advisory Board members – as a member of a non-profit’s advisory board, you will have the opportunity to influence the future direction of our league, network with other like-minded individuals, and help us with our fundraising efforts. Please contact Tom if you’re interested.

We hope you will join this amazing community, and help us make a difference in the live of New Jersey’s teens!
