MTB101 On-The-Bike Skills Training
November 26, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Hello NJICL Coaches – if you were not able to join us in September for the Leaders’ Summit, this is your last chance to participate in Coach Ben Tufford’s MTB101 on-the-bike training before the winter.
You’ll learn the NICA-endorsed training method, which includes the progressive steps needed to teach anyone (even yourself) both basic and advanced mountain biking skills. You will also learn about experiential teaching techniques, how to accommodate different learning styles, and how to create a positive learning environment for young riders.
A word about the weather
Please understand that if the weather does not co-operate, we might end up canceling this session, and then won’t be able to re-schedule until the spring; however, our threshold for cancelling will be pretty high, because we know this session is really important to many of you, so freezing temps or a light drizzle alone will not have us cancelling – please dress accordingly. We thought it was important to roll the dice, and at least try to offer this important session before winter takes over. In the event of a weather-related cancellation, we will fully refund your sign-up fee.
Based on the current (11/16) long-term forecast, it looks like temps will be below freezing the night before. To minimize the unpleasantness of being outdoors without generating a lot of body heat (the session does involve a fair bit of standing), we moved the start time to 10am.
We will conduct our session at the Sugarloaf parking area at Lewis Morris Park; we suggest entering the park from the Mendham Road entrance, since the back entrance is not always open. The GoogleMaps friendly address is Sugarloaf Rd & Doe Meadow Rd, Harding Township, NJ.
This clinic will be held outdoors, so please bring your bike and appropriate riding and safety gear for the weather. The fee incudes the NICA Coach Manual, and Lee McCormck’s classic “Teaching Mountain Bike Skills” manual, a $50 value.
