Welcome to Season 5! League Directors message

League Director’s Message

Greetings Friends and Family,

Welcome to NJ NICA’s fifth season! I hope this message finds you well and enjoying the fall riding season in New Jersey. Looking back on the 2020 season, a challenging one to say the least, I am tremendously thankful for the opportunity that the NICA program has provided to our community.

We proactively responded to the pandemic back in March, and weathered the stay at home orders that followed through regular “town hall” conference calls. We developed a return to play plan that focused on the safety of our community, which is always our first priority. Our plan met requirements set forth by the state, and offered a “bonus” riding season which culminated in two super fun time trial racing events.

Today, we have opened student registration for the 2021 season and will continue to operate in accordance with our return to play guidelines. While there are many uncertainties surrounding the pandemic, we know that our program is critical to our health and well being. We will continue to follow the guidance of our elected officials while providing a safe and fun outlet for NJ’s youth. Perhaps more important than ever, New Jersey’s mountain bike revolution is alive and well!

Our plan for the season will look familiar to returning families and a whole lot of fun to new ones. We will follow our standard spring schedule; pre-season begins today, with the regular practice season beginning on December 1st. We are working with our venue partners to secure locations for 5 spring racing events, and planning for some exciting new activities such as bikepacking and expanded adventure rides.

None of this happens without our amazing coaching roster, 308 coaches strong last year! Please take some time to thank them, and often. I am humbled by the depth of talent, the selfless attitude, the sheer strength of our coaches. Thank you to each and every one of you for being the foundation of our program.

Stay tuned for more frequent communication as we ramp up towards the regular practice season.

Best wishes and happy trails,

Ken Seebeck
